My finger nail has
dirt under it!
It is rather ugly
and cracked too.
I cleaned floors
for years to
put my children
through school
and then they
grew up
and left me
behind one day
and now
my fingernail
has dirt
under it.
I walk at
night when
the city workers
have gone
home
rumaging
through
the garbarge
cans behind
resturants
amd sometimes
I sleep on the
grates that
are set over
the hot steamy
subway
to keep from
freezing in the
winter
the mayor of
the city has
told the people
like me not to sleep
in public places
Iam to go to
the homeless
shelter
So,
my fingernail
has dirt under it
and I have not
rested for
weeks.
The homeless
shelter
is dangerous
for an old
woman like myself
where do I go?
Who will care
for an old and
confused woman
such as myself
you see
I have not bathed
in such a while
and my fingernails
are not pretty and
neither am
I …
but I did raise 3
children
but one day
I could
not remember
my way home
and so now I sit
on this curb
and look at my finger nail.
